Madonna & Lionel Richie Battling for Top Spot on iTunes Chart

With each releasing new albums this week, Madonna and Lionel Richie have both shot straight to the top of the iTunes Albums chart, and appear poised to battle it out for the top spot all week.

Lionel Richie’s Tuskegee, featuring a brand-new duet of “Endless Love” with Shania Twain, reportedly was briefly out-selling Madonna’s new album MDNA for a short time, as of the wee hours Tuesday morning. But as of 11:11 a.m., Madonna appears to have gained the #1 spot.

What about the other big online music chart at Amazon? Well, as of 11:13 a.m. Tuesday morning, Richie still has the lead. Adele’s monster hit album 21 also continues to outsell MDNA there.

Which album will win out in the end? Technically both albums will be winners here, as both appear likely to sell big. But the first week will be a dogfight until the end to see who debuts at #1.
