How well do you know your Red Sox manager? In addition to having played and coached the sport of baseball, “Bobby V” is also an accomplished ballroom dancer!
As listed in the Boston Red Sox 2012 media guide, Robert John “Bobby V” Valentine is a champion ballroom dancer who performed at the opening ceremonies of the 1964 World’s Fair in New York City at age 13!
13 years old!
His specialty is the Viennese Waltz, and in speaking with Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston, he reminisced on the childhood memory.
“I did the Viennese waltz in the New York State Pavilion to the song, Moon River. All day long.”
However, what he couldn’t remember is how he got the gig. Bobby V believes it was from qualifying at a competition held at the luxurious Waldorf Astoria hotel.
