Former Soul Train television host Don Cornelius was found dead in his California home last Wednesday after an apparent gunshot wound to the head. It has now been determined that it was self-inflicted.

Don Cornelius will be remembered as the man responsible for bringing the hottest new music and dances to living rooms everywhere. Without his influence, TV and music would look and sound completely different.

Coroners have determined, without a doubt, that Cornelius, 75, took his own life. So sad for a man who was reportedly suffering from the onset of Alzheimer’s and early dementia.

Investigators are still awaiting the results of his toxicology report. At that time, a thorough report will be issued.

Cornelius’ son Tony said in a statement last week:

“At this time, we respectfully ask that you allow our family and friends the privacy necessary to get through this difficult time. We thank all the well-wishers and the fans who have supported the Soul Train legacy.”

In this exclusive video, famous artists including Kurtis Blow and others recall the importance and the influence of Soul Train and the late Don Cornelius.
