On this day in 1984, a Pepsi ad featuring Michael Jackson premiered, with the lyrics to “Billie Jean” changed to reflect the “Pepsi generation.”

The video depicts several MJ look-alikes, dressed like their hero while moonwalking and drinking Pepsi.

It references the classic video for “Beat It” before the real Michael Jackson pops up out of nowhere, to the kids’ surprise. Then they all sing and dance and drink Pepsi together. We imagine Pepsi saw a decent sales bump after showing MJ drinking it.

Think any of these kids thought they could suddenly sing & dance like Michael Jackson just after sipping a Pepsi?
