On this day in 1966, The Rolling Stones¬†began recording the classic¬†“Paint it Black.” Check out a classic concert clip from that same year when the song first debuted!

The song is one of the defining examples of what made the Rolling Stones the counterculture to The Beatles’ cultural icon status in the 1960s.

The Fab Four wanted everyone to be happy and love each other? The Stones wanted everything black – and black only!

No other band produced such a worldwide phenomenon with such dark subject matter during that time. “Paint it Black” can be credited as a seminal song in that regard. Check out a classic live performance of the song below.
