24 years ago to the day, “Never Gonna Give You Up” started it’s two-week reign atop the U.S. singles chart, as well as in Canada, the UK, and most of Europe.

The mega dance hit would catapult the then 22-year-old’s career into superstardom, helping to sell over 40 million albums in its totality.

In 1993, just 5 years after landing his first #1 hit, Astley decided to call it quits to spend more time with his family.

After an extended leave of absence from the music business, he would return to singing in 2002.

However, he was never able to capture that same magic that made “Never Gonna Give You Up” such a classic hit.
