The Rolling Stones Postpone 50th Anniversary Tour To 2013

For fans expecting to see [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Rolling Stones[/lastfm] hit the road this year to mark their 50th Anniversary better put those expectations on hold until 2013.

In a recent interview, guitarist Keith Richards revealed that the band is just “not ready yet” to embark on a major tour, which some Stones’ insiders are attributing to Richards’ questionable health and stamina.

Richards spoke to Rolling Stone magazine in the recent issue about the changing plans for their hotly anticipated 50th anniversary tour, which Richards said would be pushed back to 2013. “I have a feeling that’s more realistic,” he added.

This tour would have not only marked the Stones’ 50th year together, but the first tour since the two-year Bigger Bang tour that ended in 2007. Though no confirmed reason was given by the band, a top concert-business source claims Richards’ health may be one reason behind the delay, questioning his ability to withstand a worldwide tour.

“They don’t want to do a full tour,” he says. “They don’t want to travel, and there are concerns about Keith’s health.” The source also says that a more likely scenario for the band would be performing multi-night shows in major cities.

For those disappointed that the Stones won’t be celebrating their golden year in 2012, Richards also points out that 2013 will also make do as the 50th anniversary — in the band’s eyes, at least.

“The Stones always really considered ’63 to be 50 years, because Charlie [Watts] didn’t actually join until January,” Richards said. “We look upon 2012 as sort of the year of conception, but the birth is next year.”
