The Three Degrees: Behind The Hits

When Will I See You Again, written by the Philadelphia songwriting team of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, almost went to someone else other that The Three Degrees.

Word is, Shelia Ferguson of the group actually threw a tantrum, claiming it was insulting to be given such a simple song that required no talent to sing.

She even screamed at Kenny Gamble when he played it for her on the piano, yelling that she would never sing it.

Even though it went on to sell several million copies, it’s not know whether or not she ate humble pie.

In addition to doing the vocals for “The Sound Of Philadelphia”┬áby MFSB, also know as the Soul Train theme song, The Three Degrees also appeared in the film ‘The French Connection.’
