As you are now well aware, new Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine is quite the character.

When he’s not ballroom dancing, conquering high school yearbooks, and getting fired by future Presidents, Bobby V is an innovator – not on the baseball field, but in the kitchen!

Since 1980, Bobby Valentine has owned and operated Bobby V’s Sports Gallery Cafe in his hometown of Stamford, CT. (originally located in Norwalk)

Bobby V claims that it was at his restaurant that the wrap sandwich was invented. And like all good inventions, it was devised out of mistake and necessity, not sheer brilliance.

A banker who often frequented his restaurant ordered a club sandwich but there was a problem: The toaster wasn’t working properly.

A few days later, the banker returned and again ordered a club sandwich. Bobby V, an outside-the-box thinker, asked him if a “Club Mex” would suffice.

Bobby V took a tortilla shell and “wrapped” up all the sandwich ingredients inside of it, creating the “Club Mex.”

The name would soon be changed to a “wrap” and the rest is history.
