When Jackson Browne hits the road this summer, he’ll be doing it with just his acoustic guitar slung across his chest and a piano at his fingertips — oh, and his effortless charm and storytelling tendencies. Browne’s been known for intimate shows that vary each night, highlighting different parts of his illustrious discography and sharing tales of his political activism.

The 1970s-bred singer-songwriter behind “The Pretender” has just announced a solo acoustic tour that kicks off July 14 in Charlotte, N.C. and makes its way across America for a month. The tour ends just outside of rock’n’roll’s capital, Cleveland, on August 15. The full list of tour dates is below.

For the tour, Browne will bring along singer-songwriter and fiddle player Sara Watkins of the band Nickel Creek.

Browne’s most recent studio album is 2008’s Time the Conqueror, though he’s stayed busy in the last year with contributions to high-profile compilations like the Chimes of Freedom tribute to Bob Dylan and a benefit album for the Occupy Wall Street movement. He’s also made appearances at a number of tribute concerts, like Carnegie Hall’s Rolling Stones Hot Rocks concert and Woody Guthrie’s 100th Birthday.

Additionally, Browne will open for Glen Campbell’s final L.A. concert on June 24 and will perform at the Newport Folk Festival on July 29.
