Local Venue Guide: The DCR Hatch Memorial Shell

Jill Boucher - WODS.com

Most famously known for its yearly 4th of July concert featuring the Boston Pops, the DCR Hatch Memorial Shell is also a mecca for classical, jazz and rock performances.

With a 90,000 sq ft lawn for fans to use in the summer months, vsitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets to add to the experience.

Originally built in 1941, the Hatch Shell underwent renovations in 1991 that cost $4.5 million. The shell is 110 feet wide, which ensures that all spectators will have a good view of the talent on stage.

The Hatch Memorial Shell is one of Boston’s best places for free entertainment. Besides the WODS Summer Concert Series, the shell also provides “Free Friday Flicks” where visitors can watch a movie on the green at dusk.
